Do Shampoo Bars Lather?
IT’S A ONE WORD ANSWER - YES!!
If you’ve seen a bar of shampoo, it might have seemed strange. Can a bar work as well as what’s in a bottle? How can you tell if it’s working? Does it lather up as well as liquid shampoo?
The ingredient that creates lather is called the surfactant. Surfactants include things like sodium laureth sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, or sodium lauryl sulfate. These ingredients are also found in products like car wash, dish detergent, and laundry detergent. They have a lot of bubbles and effectively remove all the dirt from your hair (or carpet, or dishes, or floor.)
But there are other, more gentle surfactants. However, they have to be used in higher quantities to get the same amount of lather. So at StarBars, instead of using one harsh surfactant or a whole bunch of a a more gentle surfactant, we combine a little bit of a bunch of different surfactants. Each one cleans and lathers a little a differently. Sodium cocoyl isethionate (SCI) is made from coconuts, and offers beautiful, gentle “lace glove” lather. Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (SLSa) is not a sulfate and offers rich, long-lasting lather. StarBars also contains cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) is a low-lather cleansing ingredient that stabilizes the lather of the other surfactants while acting as a moisturizing ingredient that doesn’t strip hair. And finally we have decyl glucoside and sodium lauroyl lactylate, both which contribute a rich, dense lather.
These five, yes FIVE different gentle surfactants make StarBars one of the foamiest bars available. Add some water to the bar and rub it on your hands or directly on your hair, and you will get bubbles galore. Rinse away all the dirt, oil and buildup without stripping your hair or scalp.
Our most cleansing bar is Clarity, and our most gentle bar is Protect. Right in the middle is Strength. All are packed with ingredients that will leave your hair clean, shiny and healthy. With lots of lather!
Don’t be fooled by other bars that only use a single surfactant. While not as harsh as some liquid shampoos, too much of one surfactant can also be harsh on your hair and leave it frizzed out, stripped and dry.
